Thai Postage Stamps - The Reign of King Rama IX

History of Thai Postage Stamps in The Reign of King Bhumipol Aduldej (King Rama IX) During The Period 1947-1956

H.M. King Bhumipol had ascended to the throne, in the coronation ceremony thereof, on 5th May 1947. To celebrate the occasion, the Post and Telegraph Department issued stamps of the 9th Reign Siam set, for sale in 1947-1949. The stamps were printed in England. It is notable that Thailand has again changed its name on the stamps in this set to "Siam". The stamps consists of 10 denominations as follows: 5,10,20,50 Satang denominations, and 1,2,3,5,10,20 Baht denominations.

During this decade (1947-1956), these had been the issue of different sets of interesting stamps, among them are stamps of the 1950 Coronation Commemorative Issue, the 1953-60th Anniversary of Thai Red Cross Society Commemorative Issue,the 1995 King Naresuan the Great Issue, the 1955 Tao Suranari Issue, and the 1956 Don Chedi Pagoda Issue.

King Naresuan the Great Issue in particular ,consisting of 25-Satang and 80-Satang denominations, and of 1 Baht,2 Baht,and 3 Baht denominations,designed by Mr.Glao Saengxuto, and official of the Post and Telegraph Department, and printed by the Waterlow & Son Co.,Ltd. in England, were highly praised by the printer for their beautiful and significant design, with each angle and every part thereof being artistically drawn, and coordinated,to make King Naresuan's offensive posture,on the elephant's back look all the more impressive and grandiose, as the printer had put it in his praise.
