Walking through the rows of old stamps flooded my mind with a mixture of memories of great events, the rise and fall of great empires, some of whom came into my life. These were some of the images of stamps that caught my attention.
Penny Black Rubber Stamps
EnglandPenny Black, the first prepaid adhesive postage stamp in the world, was published in 1840 under the reign of Queen Victoria, at the height of the British Empire. The end of the empire was a century later, when Japan upset the invincibility of the United Kingdom during the Second World War.
Old stamps Solot
Had in 1883, was built during the reign of King Rama V, the first Thai stamp Solot (after the price of the stamp, the name of the former Thai currency published). The Post was one of themany reforms in the Chakri Reformation during the reign 1868-1910 Fifth.
These two seemingly simple old stamps changed the lives of millions of people.
Chinese military mail
Forgot Chinese military posts in the Sino-Japanese War 1894 - 1895, the war long ago, was a precursor of worse to come. In the next century, Japan invaded China in 1930 and in South-East Asia in 1940. Born after the war, I was spared the horrors of Japanese occupation. My grandparentsParents were not so lucky.
Letter of Mafeking
Letter of Lord Baden Powell of Mafeking Boy Scouts of good memories, the adventures in the open, real values steeped in the international scouting.
Old stamps on a letter from Sungei Goloka
Narathiwat is the province in the south of Thailand, next to the Malaysian state of Kelantan. It is also currently in the grip of a Muslim insurgency. Who would have sent this letter from SungeiGoloka, an obscure little town in Narathiwat, in Paris in 1936?
Special stamps - Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
The first day to cover the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II 2nd June 1953 reminds me of my mother. He still treasures the dishes to commemorate the event in 1953, who proudly displayed in his window at home in Singapore.
Old postage stamps in the turbulent decades
The red stamp of the Cultural Revolution in China wasturbulent time, the anti-colonial struggles in the '50s, the communist insurgency in the 60s and the height of the Vietnam War in the 70s.
In the April 1975 after North Vietnam took Saigon, the Prime Minister of Thailand, MR Kukrit Pramoj it called for a Thai would command the army, how long it will reach the Vietnamese to Bangkok. The answer was a matter of days!
We have a thrill when the Vietnamese invaded in Phnom Penh in 1976. Since then, the fanaticism of Mao's Red Guardspales in comparison to the Killing Fields in Cambodia and beating the gloomy prospect of battle hardened troops at our doors.
Genghis Khan - the man of the third millennium
Mongolia Genghis Khan resurrected images of the great warrior, in my books at school, whose empire stretched from Beijing to the Caspian Sea and shake the Danube, as his rider at the gates of Eastern Europe. His military exploits were unbeatable there.
These were the old stamps that caught my attention, picturesMen and women whose actions have moved the lives of millions of people around the world. Stamps tell different stories with different eyes. Take a trip out through the images of stamps and what your story?
